Whole Room Painting and Built-in Removal for Residential Condo at Punggol Central

Services Provided
Project Overview
A mid‑rise condominium unit in Singapore was slated for a complete interior refresh. The homeowner wanted to eliminate the existing built‑in cabinetry, shelving, and a small kitchen table that were no longer functional, and to give the entire room a fresh, uniform paint finish. At HackingSG we were engaged to execute the built‑in carpentry dismantling and removal, followed by a full‑room painting and touch‑up service. The project required a careful, coordinated approach to protect the surrounding condo environment while delivering a clean, ready‑to‑use space that met the client’s aesthetic expectations.
Technical Challenges
Tight Urban Footprint – Condo units have limited clearance and narrow corridors for moving large built‑in sections out of the room. Removing the cabinetry without damaging adjacent walls, ceilings, or the unit’s sliding door frames demanded precise sequencing and the use of specialised hand tools rather than heavy equipment.
Preserving Structural Integrity – The built‑in units were anchored into the plaster and ceiling soffit. Detaching them required careful chiselling and removal of mounting brackets to avoid creating cracks or compromising the surrounding plaster substrate, which would have added extra repair work before painting.
Dust & Debris Containment – Demolition of wood joinery generates fine dust that can travel to neighbouring units through shared ventilation shafts. Implementing temporary dust‑containment barriers and sealing off openings while still allowing efficient workflow was essential to meet the building’s strict hygiene standards.
Surface Preparation for Paint – After removal, the exposed walls exhibited uneven plaster edges and minor surface blemishes. Achieving a seamless paint finish required meticulous patching, sanding, and priming to ensure the new coating adhered uniformly across the entire room.
Project Considerations
Safety & Protection – All non‑demolition areas, including the nearby sliding doors, window frames, and the homeowner’s personal furnishings, were covered with protective sheeting. Floor protection was laid down in high‑traffic zones to prevent scratches and to contain any stray debris.
Neighbour‑Unit Minimisation – We coordinated demolition times with the building management and used low‑impact hand tools to reduce vibration and noise, thereby limiting disturbance to adjacent residents.
Dust‑Control Protocol – Continuous use of dust‑extractor units, coupled with sealed plastic barriers around the work zone, ensured that particulate matter remained confined. Regular site clean‑ups were performed throughout the day to maintain a tidy environment.
Clear Communication – Progress updates, photographs, and any arising issues were shared instantly with the homeowner and interior designer via WhatsApp, keeping all stakeholders aligned and enabling rapid decision‑making.
Efficient Disposal – All dismantled cabinetry, shelving, and the table were promptly sorted and removed from the site, with recyclable wood sent to appropriate facilities and non‑recyclables disposed of in accordance with local regulations.
Results
The built‑in cabinetry, shelving, and table were removed cleanly without leaving any damage to the surrounding walls or ceiling. Following a thorough surface preparation, the entire room was painted to a high‑quality, uniform finish, with touch‑up work performed on any minor imperfections.
The homeowner now enjoys an open, versatile space ready for a new interior layout. The project was completed on schedule, with minimal disruption to neighbouring units and no post‑work dust complaints. Our client praised the professionalism of the team, the transparent communication throughout the process, and the flawless final appearance.
By combining our expertise in built‑in carpentry dismantling with meticulous painting services, we transformed the condo unit into a fresh, blank canvas—demonstrating HackingSG’s commitment to quality workmanship and superior customer service in residential renovations.
