Project Overview

The client commissioned us to completely strip out the existing built‑in carpentry and kitchen units in a mid‑rise residential unit in Singapore. The scope encompassed general dismantling and disposal as well as built‑in cabinet and kitchen removal. Our team was tasked with clearing out white base cabinets, lower kitchen cupboards, and associated wall fixtures while preserving the surrounding finishes, windows, and tiled flooring. The work was carried out in a high‑density neighbourhood where minimal disruption to adjacent units and strict dust control were essential.

Technical Challenges

Challenge How We Addressed It
Confined working envelope – The rooms were modest in size, with built‑in units hugging the walls and a window recess that limited maneuvering space. We staged a step‑by‑step dismantling sequence, beginning with the removal of upper cabinet supports before taking down lower sections. Portable, low‑profile lifting aids and carefully selected hand tools allowed us to extract large panels without crowding the floor area.
Preserving structural integrity of window and wall openings – The window frames and surrounding plaster were partially exposed during the strip‑out, raising the risk of accidental damage. Prior to any demolition, we installed temporary protective edge guards and foam‑filled brackets around the window recess. All cuts and removals were measured and marked to stay within the designated demolition envelope, ensuring the window remained fully functional.
Managing debris without contaminating adjacent living spaces – The building’s shared corridors and neighboring units required strict dust containment. We employed a combination of sealed dust‑extraction units and localized plastic sheeting at each work zone. Continuous vacuuming and daily sweep‑and‑wipe routines kept the tile floor spotless, and all waste was bagged and sealed before removal.
Coordinating disposal logistics in a high‑rise environment – Large cabinet sections and packing material had to be extracted through limited service lifts. Our crew pre‑segmented the cabinets into transport‑ready modules and used the building’s service lift during off‑peak hours. This minimized lift usage time and eliminated the need for heavy‑duty freight elevators, reducing impact on other residents.

Project Considerations

  • Safety First – All team members wore appropriate PPE, and the site was cordoned off with clear signage. Electrical outlets and wall‑mounted devices were isolated before work began to prevent accidental energisation.
  • Protection of Non‑Demolition Areas – We laid protective covers on the existing ceramic tiles and used edge protectors on door frames and window sills. Loose items and packing materials were stacked neatly on cleared cabinet tops to avoid accidental spills.
  • Dust Control & Housekeeping – In addition to the localized plastic barriers, we operated portable HEPA filtration units and performed hourly floor sweeps. A hand brush and dustpan were kept on‑site for spot cleaning, ensuring a consistently tidy environment.
  • Transparent Communication – Throughout the project we maintained a dedicated WhatsApp group with the homeowner and interior designer. Progress photos, daily logs, and any change‑order discussions were shared in real time, keeping all stakeholders fully informed.
  • Efficient Waste Disposal – All dismantled cabinetry, hardware, and packaging were sorted on‑site. Recyclable wood and metal components were directed to certified recycling streams, while non‑recyclables were disposed of in compliance with Singapore’s waste‑management regulations.

Results

  • Clean, Ready‑to‑Fit Space – All built‑in cabinets and kitchen units were removed without compromising the integrity of the window recess or the tiled floor. The walls are now fully exposed, providing a pristine canvas for the client’s upcoming renovation.
  • Zero Disruption to Neighbours – Our dust‑containment strategy and careful lift scheduling meant that neighboring units reported no noticeable disturbance or
